APRIL/MAY 2011 JOURNAL

Posted by Melinda Virden on April 17, 2011 at 12:02 AM Comments comments (0)

It's finally here.  The new journal.  My daughters Diana, Montana and I have waited anixiously for this issue.  This was the issue officially announcing the The All-Star placings.

It was truly a great thrill to be listed amoung those of you that have done this for years.  We are truly honored!  We tell everyone of our sucess.  They may think that we are bragging, but that is so far from the truth.  The truth of the matter is that we are just amazed to have done as well as we did and we're so proud of our little herd.

We are looking forward to this years' show season.  So much more to learn, and new friends to see.

Our first show this season will begin at Bertrand's Horse Ranch Watseka, IL.  Memorial Day weekend. It will be a two day show, Saturday and Monday.  There will be four judges each day.

Wish us luck, as we wish for all of you.

Melinda

Our First Year

Posted by Melinda Virden on October 3, 2010 at 7:46 AM Comments comments (0)

Starting in April of 2010 was our first year of competion for our Shetlands.  We showed 8 of our shetlands over the course of the summer. Nothing on a grand scale.  We participated in the Illinios Curcuit Show at Bertrand's Horse Ranch in Watseka, IL.  Making the trip for 4 of the 5 shows.  We attended the National Area II show in Ashland, OH and the OH State Fair Show.  And the Canfield Fair in Mahoning County, Canfield Ohio.

The first show was really nerve racking for me.  This being the first show other than a hometown county fair.  Terminology was different for things that I knew to do.  But when directed to preform I was at a loss.  But the judge's were very patient and helpful.  As were all the exhibitors at that first show. A great big THANKS to them!  The saying " Your never to old to learn." is so true.  And I never want to be that old...

Showing the Shetlands were my daughters, Diana Cappelli, Montana Virden, Shanna Miller, friends Bill Buckel, Bill Jordan and his daughter Michelle, Dacia Louk and Brittany Moore.  Moral support came from my entire family at the shows as well as from home, by way of encouraging phone calls and text messages.  My husband, Ross traveled with us as often as possible, when his work allowed.  He didn't show but, his claim to fame is transporting us from show to show and helping get ponies ready and holding them during classes always ready with the pony for the next class.
